Hey people. I just want to mention which of these is good and which are not so. #1 The GGB. Walking on the GGB is an truly awesome experience! #2 Alcatraz Island. Went when I was a teen. Very cool. Now I wouldn't be locked in a cell 'for fun" now however… #3 Fisherman's Wharf. This is such a tourist spot. Everything is expensive as hell, nothing but tourists and parking is an absoulte nightmare. Highly recommend Lyft. No locals except for homeless people and street perfomers. I'd avoid it. #4 Cable cars. Local residents do not use cable cars! I assure you of that, maybe a small handful do but most just use Muni bus or metro. #5 GGP is nice but it starts where the Haight Ashbury district ends and I must warn you, the homeless kids on the Haight are VERY aggressive. If you go to the Haight to shop keep walking & do NOT interact or antagonize them. Seriously.
I can relate. 🙂 I have lived in the Bay Area (Concord, CA) since I was in my junior year in high school since moving from Trinidad, Cuba – Houston – S.F. Bay Area. Love it here!
Just keep in mind that during the tourist season these mentioned places get really, really crowded so, for instance, if you're willing to visit the Alcatraz, you have to bear and cope with the whole crowd surrounding you and it won't be a totally amazing experience, also you might have to wait in line to take a boat to the island. The Fisherman's Wharf area can get really crowded too, although it's still a nice place to visit. Walk up to a pier and watch the scenery, it's really nice.
I live Here and I honestly cannot see the appeal. But it's still a great place to visit. If you're visiting around this area, go to Santa Cruz, which is like 2 hours south of sf. Nice beaches, the summer it stays in the mid 70s, the wharf, the boardwalk, and a ton of hippies. It's just a great little by-the-sea town that I've had a ton of great memories in. Or go to capitola which is like 10 min from Santa Cruz, it's smaller, more quiet, but has sea cliffs

Miami is a great Place for someone who loves drugs, night life, terrible traffic( the only way to get anywhere is I-95 and it is bumper to bumper in the morning and in the evening, criminal setuation is horrible, you can get easily rubbed or killed if you suddenly get lost and find yourself in the wrong area,a lot of prostitution, and all illegal things you can fined it all in Miami.beaches there are terrible, much better is daytone beach so buddy…Not the best place for normal people
Take it from someone who lived there 11 years, Fisherman's Wharf is a disgusting tourist trap. No local would be caught dead there. Chinatown has nothing but congested streets, garbage and junky shops. GG park is okay, but better to visit the Cliff House and walk North on the trails with views of the GG bridge. See North Beach, Coit tower, Fort Point, Muir woods (redwood forest), and Angel Island.
Here's the real list if you want to get off the tourist track: 1) Cliff House. You'll get a view of the golden gate bridge on the way there. 2) Chinatown. If you've never been to China, this is the closest thing to it in North America. 3) Union Square. If you're going to ride a cable car you might as well ride it to the best shopping district on the west coast. 4) Mission District. Check out all the mid-century modern Mexican murals. 5) Castro district. How can you go to SF and miss it?
These are great tourist-y places, but they tend to be a bit crowded and over-priced. I'd say check out the local "gems" that aren't so obvious. If you're in Haight-Ashbury check out Amoeba (of course!) for music. The Buffalo Exchange there is great too (it has the best selection of clothes that are trendy, yet vintage). If you're near Hayes Valley, make sure to stop at Blue Bottle coffee on Linden Street (just look for the garage with the line of people). Have fun in SF, I always do!!
Japantown (Post Street) is my favorite. How come none of these videos on YouTube even mention it? I'm going to the SF Cherry Blossom Festival in Japantown in 1 week – taiko drummers, cosplayers, and gothic lolitas. Oh my. Maybe its good they don't mention it. TOURISTS STAY AWAY FROM MY FAVORITE RAMEN SHOPS!!!
these places listed in the video are actually nothing fun. maybe cuz i live in sf and been there too much, but..yeah…japantown, chinatown, + downtown (= YAY<3 and the schools are good. we have lowell high school, ranked #23 best out of all the high schools in the usa. ;D yup, we be rockin.
Amo la ciudad de San Francisco por su ciudad y el puente

did you go to NYC!? That is an experience!
SF is the best……. alot of crazy crackhead homeless people….but good place if you can get passed that.
Cable cars for residents?! No. Fucking. Way. Stopping at every street corner and waving at people is not for residents.
Booooooring. Need a native perspective.
