It's worth a drive over. But that's about it.
Omg. This is THE list. Amazing work. Well done. I agree with 90% of your grades.
I lived in South Beach for a while.. Oracle Park and the surrounding area suck. I don't know how against an S when it really deserves a D. Food options suck, too much traffic, waste of time.
I don't get the fascination with Dolores Park. It might be interesting when they do movies in the park there, otherwise it's just a bunch of kids getting high sitting around. Woo.
You didn't mention that if you're going to Golden Gate Park, the obvious place to visit is the Inner Sunset. Irving Street has some great food options.
Nice video. If you have a car I think Half Moon Bay/Moss Beach is pretty underrated! I think its worth a trip if you have a car and some extra time!
🙏 Adam! Certainly the best rapid fire, San Francisco tourist video we’ve seen! And we’ve been looking as we’ll be there next week!
For a very short visit, 2 full days, 2 travel, where would you recommend getting a room to see a couple “S” spots? And would Union Square be a bad cho?
Thanks again for an amazing effort on this video 🙌🏼
City Hall is absolutely gorgeous inside. I was married there, and found myself in awe of the classic architecture. That said, yeah, the Tenderloin area is miserable.
Loved SF as a tourist, hated it after living there for 4 years. Insanely overpriced, weather is always uncomfortable and the people obnoxiously tell you “we’re the best” incessantly. After you’ve done all the tourist trap crap, it just gets old and boring, and as you’ve stated here, the most classic touristy things are highly overrated. The only one I never did was the Alcatraz tour; I ain’t paying anybody to take me to prison. Chicago and NY are infinitely better.
The video is ok, the audio sucks
As someone who went to college in the North Bay, this is a solid ranking!
I would add Legion of Honor, Marin Headlands, and Tartine Bakery to the list. It’s unfortunate that Baonecci, a restaurant in North Beach, moved to Frisco, Texas in 2022; people in the Dallas area should definitely go. Also sad to hear the Mission isn’t as good as it used to be; we used to like to just wander in and out of stores, bars, and restaurants there.
This has to be the worst tier rankings of all time, also misprounce Boudin
Wow I'm late 30s and you gave me so many ideas. I live here. Grew up here. Had no idea….. Still pissed about Oakland losing the Warriors though.
When I need a recharge I go out to Pacifica.
If you insist on on seeing the Bridge, take the ferry to Marin instead
Lived here since '13, not as long as Adam, but as an sf delivery truck and bus driver id say he's pretty spot on, our center mall is just not it right now😢, but we still have plenty going on, sure Chinatown is touristy but keeps it's edge and history too, hes right about molinaris too, id give japantown an A once the remodel is done and for it being crossroads for the 38 and 22
As someone who is visiting San Francisco for the first time this summer, this list is really helpful, thank you
FYI: the best time to visit the Bridge (and vicinity) is from September-October: its Indian summer and everyone heads downhill to Baker and Marshall Beach. The best way to get there is by public transport (drum gag). Can’t believe you forgot that part.
Great selections!
The Alcatraz tour was surprisingly excellent for a National Park.
I’ve walked across and back on the GG Bridge, despite my fear of heights, with friends and it was worth it.
Luv my La Taqueria burrito in the Mission!
Sports update:
– Chase Center: everything’s overpriced there, inside and out, but the Warriors are on the upswing!
– Oakland Coliseum: the A’s have left to Sacramento(!) and supposedly eventually Las Vegas.
As you’re an Oakland native I would like your opinion of places in Oakland:
– Laney College Flea Markey in Sundays; *Gilberto’s Roasted Peanuts are a definite “S”!
– restaurants and taco trucks
– Oaklandish
– Lake Merritt
– Top Dog for a hot dog
– Colonial Donuts
Oakland gets a hard "no". They no longer have any major sports, their restaurants have mostly been forced to close for lack of business. Too much crime everywhere, no security anywhere.
Thanks Adam. Good advice. Very helpful
I visited SF over the summer and the day I visited the Golden Gate Bridge, the temp was in the 50s.. at the end of july!… I was not expecting sweatshirt weather in july. There were ppl wearing full-on coats.
If I ever manage to visit your country, I will make it my mission to visit SF and the Golden Gate Park. (And of course other top mentions)
Btw, just for sjids and giggles you should have given the Museum of Fine Arts the obligatory F rating (yes, 55 and still a juvenile lol)
I just heard Dutch Crunch and had to find out what it was. It is indeed a crust we often use in the Netherlands. We obviously don't call it Dutch Crunxh. We use the name "tiger bread" for it, by far my favorite bread… 10 extra points to the Bay Area
Good list. Two changes: I would include the museum “Legion of Honor” as an A tier, and would say Lands End is an S tier (you don’t show the hiking part of it, which is the best part)
oh it was a mistake to watching this video. I am a born and raised San Francisco who still lives there and I got way to many opinions about your rankings. That said, love your content and keep up the great work.
I can’t believe he rated the Exploratorium an S when he admits he’s never been there. Leaving off other museums like the Legion of Honor …
I like your take on the Haight, but you got the decade wrong: it was the epicenter of the 60s Hippie Movement. The Summer of Love was 1967. By the 70s, the scene got bleak.
This is an insane take. I go to ggb every Sunday for my long run. Only about 5% of the time has the fog made the views lame
The other day I bought a lunch sandwich and a bottle of Gaterade at Russian Hill; $23.
For the last few years Fort Point has been blocked off. You can get within sight of it, but you can't get to Fort Point itself. Also, you ought to point out that Fort Point is famous as the place where Kim Novak went into the water in the movie VERTIGO.
Ultimately, this is a subjective list and coming from a local the perspective will obviously be different than a tourist. I've grown up in the east bay and love taking tourists into the city to explore, and agree that sometimes the main tourist spots are overcrowded, and overrated. That being said, if you are visiting SF for the first time, I think even the tourist spots ranked lower on this list are worth seeing. Also, its worth noting that many spots in/around SF are easily visited via BART, cable cars, the ferry, and newly waymo, but many spots on this list require a car to get to. If you're just here for a short trip, I recommend planning at least one day seeing only the spots reached easily via public transit such as Pier 39, Fishermans Warf, Ghiradelli Square, the Cable Car (I agree that the Powell-Hyde line is the best. it will take you past Lombard St., China Town, and into Union Square). Golden gate park is definitely a top tier fabulous spot, there is so much to do and nice for a picnic, the presidio is great, and I personally can't miss Japantown (painted ladies aren't far from here). To see the Golden Gate Bridge, taking a drive to the Marin Headlands is by far my favorite view. And if you can make it to Muir Woods, it's spectacular. Obviously, you can spend a lifetime exploring (as many do) and find endless hidden gems (keep an eye out for gorgeous steps!), but if you are a first time tourist, it's great to see the places that you can go home and recognize in movies!
It doesnt matter what anyone says in any tierlist. The sf trolley is S Tier. Its calming and a beautiful way to see the city. You get on the trolley for a quick ride and you will have a good day trust. Especially if you never have done it. Its also very special. I beoieve its only one of 4 citys in the us that have a working city trolley
I agree with a ton of this video disagree with other parts. But the SF – East bay hatred is sooo prevalent in this video. I think lumping berkeley and oakland into last spots is such a disservice. They are definitely a different vibe from sf but the food scene in oakland is unmatched and berkeley has a wonderful relaxing vibe to it, you could do the botanical gardens for $5 and its never busy with a redwood grove that is always empty, you could learn about all the great science and engineering (from oppenheimer to modern advances in quantum computing) to come from berkeley at the campus and surrounding areas, go to GREAT concerts at the greek theater, walk north shattuck or telegraph for great cafes, botiques, and cheeseboard pizza, or wander up and down solano. Or even head up to the lawrence hall of science for what is actually hands down the best view of the bay since you can see oakland, berkeley, sf, the bridge, sausalito, albany, richmond, etc all from one place. Berkeley has a ton to offer just at a more relaxed pace/enviroment with less crowding and bustling.
I really can't tell if you'd is AI or not
