Greater Boston is terrific, it's relatively safe, the ocean and the mountains are not far away, it's possible to live without a car, it's walkable in many areas(I live in Newton). There's no abandoned housing anywhere. A hockey game at BU on a Friday or Saturday night is my kind of fun.
