Washington, D.C., formally the District of Columbia and also known as D.C. or just Washington, is the capital of the United States. It is a federal district, not a state, and is located on the east coast of the United States between the states of Maryland and Virginia.
The city is home to many national landmarks and monuments, such as the White House, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Washington Monument. It is also home to the U.S. Congress and the Supreme Court.
