  1. I’m in Pompano Beach Florida. I live here the waters throughout south Florida are so disgusting and horrible with seaweed. You can’t go swimming unless you wanna swimming dark brown root beer, yellow water with two or 3 feet of seaweed on the shore and seaweed floating in the water 20 mile 20 feet out.

  2. Please no comparisons and FL already has some of the best beaches and even the most springs that are crystal clear, regions mentioned are just low setting and therefore only generic huts versus a tropical ecosystem with a vibrant cuIture.

  3. *Golf Courses and Population Proximity in Florida*

Florida leads the U.S. with approximately 1,150–1,260 golf courses as of recent 2025 estimates, far more than any other state. These cluster densely in populated regions, including southwest Florida, Palm Beach County, Orlando area, and retirement hubs.
Examples include The Villages (over 140,000 residents with dozens of courses) and dense clusters in Naples (70+ communities). Likely hundreds of thousands to low millions live adjacent or within short distances, especially in coastal and retiree-heavy areas.

    *Parkinson's Disease in Florida*

Florida ranks among states with highest PD prevalence and incidence, with estimates of nearly 80,000–100,000+ cases. Age-adjusted rates place it high nationally, partly due to large elderly population but potentially elevated beyond demographics alone.

*Cumulative Environmental Concerns and Toxic Inputs*

Florida's environment faces interconnected pressures from agriculture, mining, development, and turf management, introducing nutrients, pesticides, and other contaminants into the vulnerable karst aquifer, surface waters, and air.

    – *Big Sugar and Agricultural Runoff* — Sugarcane fields south of Lake Okeechobee (dominated by major producers) apply heavy phosphorus/nitrogen fertilizers. Runoff is a primary driver of Lake O's eutrophication, leading to toxic cyanobacteria blooms.

    – *Lake Okeechobee as a Pollution Hub* — Nutrient-laden water from northern dairies/farms and southern sugarcane accumulates here, causing massive algae outbreaks. Discharges east/west trigger coastal red tides; blooms produce neurotoxins.

    – *Phosphate Mining* — Concentrated in central Florida's Bone Valley, operations disturb 3,000–6,000 acres annually, producing radioactive phosphogypsum stacks and risking spills/groundwater contamination with heavy metals and radionuclides.

    – *Rock (Limestone) Mining* — Extensive in south Florida near Everglades/Miami-Dade, quarrying for construction fill blasts wetlands and alters water flow in sensitive ecosystems.

    – *Overdevelopment and Land Conversion* — Farmland (including former ag zones) converts to gated communities, often with golf courses. This increases impervious surfaces, stormwater runoff, and turf chemical use while reducing natural buffering.

These practices deliberately apply or disturb chemicals for economic gain: fertilizers/pesticides for crop/turf yields, mining for resources. Cumulative exposure pathways include drinking water (aquifer leaching), air drift, and food chains. Pesticides link to PD risk in studies; algae neurotoxins and mining radioactives associate with other health concerns. Interactions may amplify risks, though direct causation remains complex and understudied. Restoration efforts (e.g., Everglades projects, mining reclamation) continue, but pollution persists.

  4. Grew up there. Raised my kids there when it was still a quiet little gem. Greedy developers took over and ruined the beautiful island, sadly. Now it’s touristy, too expensive to live there, and lost its quaint vibe. We moved away 10 years ago. I miss the old island so much.

  5. It's not that great tbh, the water isn't that clear most of the year
    There is hardly any parking
There are no dogs allowed on the beach
There are small insects in the water that sting you and it feels like a jellyfish
    Otherwise
    The people are nice
    The restaurants are good
