8 Things To Know Before Visiting The Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum’s Garden Courtyard!

1. It was built in 1898 & designed after a 15th century Venetian palazzo and is surrounded by 3 floors of art galleries and covered by a glass roof.

2. It’s filled with a variety of plant life and greek statues collected by Gardner throughout her travels in Europe.

3. The flora is changed every month so each time you visit you’ll experience something new such as chrysanthemums, orchids, hydrangeas, & hanging nasturtiums!

4. The garden courtyard is anchored by a beautiful Roman mosaic floor of medusa dating back to 117 AD. 

5. If you look carefully you’ll notice that the artwork figures depicted in the courtyard are only female.

6. Visitors are not allowed to stroll in the heart of the garden, but it feels as if you’re a part of it from all angles.

7. Admissions to the museum start at $20.
