The Don’ts of The USA

We travel with a Microsoft Surface everywhere we go. I edit my videos on it & use it to backup my pictures and vides while we travel. It’s light and the best travel laptop on the market in my opinion.

We use Sony Alpha series cameras to film our videos. They are compact so you don’t look like a super tourist when you take great pictures and videos while you travel.

We use Manfrotto Tripods. They are compact, travel well, and honestly I would not use another tripod for my nice cameras.

Travel Plug that works in pretty much any country & has four USB ports. A must for any traveler.

  1. Lifetime Chicagoan here Good points about not driving. There are places where you can drive but if you're a tourist it's not worth it. We have three main public transportation systems in Chicago. There is of course the buses which connect and use the same fair system as the 'L' The name for the Chicago elevated system also you can call it a subway because of that places it's underground but anyway then there is a commuter rail system called the Metro which once again connects up with the buses and some of the L trains. There is even an app that you can put on your phone and pay for your bus metra or train with just a tap from your phone.
It's called the Ventra app available in the Play store for iPhones and Androids.
Unfortunately six flags is way north of Chicago someplace you can't get to without a car realistically so don't bother with that unless you can get there and back.
Nightlife in the loop is kind of non-existent unless there's a festival like taste of Chicago or something going on but there are plays you can see at the theaters and there's fabulous dining experiences in and around downtown that in the early to mid evening hours are great to take in.

  2. Why don't these so-called travel guides ever leave downtown Chicago. 77 distinct neighborhoods in the city and they never leave that 10 block radius. And they don't even go to the cool spots in downtown! 😅

  3. Chicago overrall is just a bizarre place…people are very rude and theres nothing to do unless you have tons of money. And that sewage smell that never goes away has always been a problem for their city…the air is very polluted…it ranks low on everything important….probobly why no smart people ever do business there…a bunch of college grads stavk themselves on top of each other and are surrounded by trash everywhere…no normal people reside aroumd chicago….

  4. I'm from Chicago.
    Additional things to do:
    -Lincoln Park Zoo (free entrance)
    -Buckingham Fountain
-Walk the lake (kayaking in the summer)
    -Riverwalk
    – Chinatown (take water taxi)
-Pilsen or Little Village (Mexican Food)
    -Humbolt Park (Puerto Rican Food)
    -Taylor Street (Little Italy)

  5. There are cool things to do in Chicago. Im actually from Chicago but live in Georgia. Getting ready to come for a visit. I cant wait i want my pizza, a beef and a Vienna hotdog. I miss the food so bad. ❤

  6. Still enjoying this episode event six years later. I have lived in Chicago and its suburbs and villages for 55 years, and I admit my bias: Chicago is one of the most beautiful, friendly and culturally diverse cities in the U.S. I agreed with a lot of they info you shared; especially, exploring the suburbs and hinterlands of Chicago. Evanston (home of Northwestern University), Lisle (The Morton Arboretum); Glencoe for The Chicago Botanic Garden and Ravinia; Gurnee for Great America, and so on… And please: It will always be The SEARS Tower.

  7. DON'T #1: Miss a HOUSE MUSIC EVENT, taking place every night of week in various spots…
WHY? House Music – Made IN CHICAGO. The World followed, people are still unaware how big of a deal this is, since house music is everywhere… but this is where it was created, look up warehouse, frankie knuckles etc… This house music in Chicago was push and pull love hate relationship with birthplace of another music genre forming not too far away: Techno in Detroit… Techno and House kinda shaped each other without ever knowing history was being made.

  8. The bar at the top of the Hancock building was called the Signature Room and it sadly closed down after covid. Also as someone who lives in Chicago, we go to Navy Pier all the time! Maybe not everyone but I don't consider it just for tourists. A lot of the river and lake tours depart from Navy Pier. On a nice day it's fun to take a relaxing boat ride or a walk around the pier. It's not cheap though. Also, as of right now in 2025 I wouldn't take public transportation. It's not as safe as it used to be. If you must ride take it during the day only and stick to the downtown area which makes sense if you're staying in the loop area. If you're not staying in the loop and are only going downtown once or twice then just pay for parking and drive it's easier and safer but plan for a lot of traffic. Plus, if the destination is Soldier Field or the surrounding museums, there are no trains that go there from airports or downtown. You'd have to take a train downtown and then transfer to a bus or walk (and it's a good hike-well over a mile).

  10. Thank you so much! This is one of the best Chicago videos I've ever seen (& I'm one of those born and raised in Chicago people) It's simply a world class city that acts & many times feels like a much smaller town! ENJOY !
