Teddy Roosevelt named it the White House when he was president. Before that, it was simply called "The Executive Mansion."
Nice video, thank you! A word of advice about the food trucks at the national mall, many (not all) of them are operated by one or two organizations, and they often run without permits/licenses and are known by locals to be somewhat of a scam. I've heard many locals tell me that if you do not see prices listed, walk away, unless you are okay paying $18 for an ice cream cone of questionable quality. Also, licensed trucks will be displaying their health certificate in the window. If you don't see that, again, walk away. The park rangers have been working with the DC police to have some of them towed recently, but the operators pay the fine and are back the same day a lot of times, with their co-workers holding their spot open while they are gone.
A few things I would suggest that you didn't visit are:
American History Museum with the First Ladies' inaugural gowns (free)
The Portrait Gallery with the portraits of all the presidents and famous Americans (free)
The National Cathedral on Wisconsin Ave. – (free)
Mt. Vernon via boat from the Wharf in SW (not free)
Hillwood – The Majorie Merriwether Post mansion in Van Ness (not free)
Arlington Cemetery – tomb of the unknown (free)
The Holocaust Museum
The African American Museum
You didn't mention the free Circulator busses. Those are both time- and feet- savers
I went there like 2 weeks ago and used your video as a guide of where to go, it worked well and I got to see the solar eclipse!
Not sure why you have to knock Trump. You should not assume everyone shares your politics.
The fence and all those gates is what Biden created during the pandemic after he became president 🙄
What's your advice for a 1st time visitor to Washington DC we're going in 2025 for 7 days
You're guys so cute. My wife and I are going to Washington DC. in a couple of week, and we'll try to replicate your "to-do" list over there. Thanks for the great content!

What time of year is this?
Hello! Fab video thank you! Can I ask, where did you stay? Thanks x
How far apart are these sites from one another ?
The British tried to burn the white house down in the war of 1812. had to white was the stone.
It was Biden who put up the fences around the White Houses.
There’s nothing good to do. I despise this city.
Sorry, don't blame TRUMP for the fences…..
It was PELOSI and BIDEN.
THEY ARE COWARDS THAT HID BEHIND THE FENCES.
About quarentee if TRUMP gets back in, those would come down.
Take it from a person who lives near DC, the best thing thing to do in DC is to avoid going. That city is horrible.
THE WHITE HOUSE WAS PAINTED WHITE BECAUSE THE BRITISH BURNED IT DURING THE WAR OF 1812 AND THEY NEEDED TO COVER THE SOOT STAINS…….
DC area resident here for 50 yrs. Nicely done video! I wanted to point out, the names on the wall of the Vietnam memorial are not of those who served – they are of those who died in that war or remain missing. That is what makes it so striking.
When do you home to Indonesia,or rarely
I dont believe the barriers were brought in during Trumps term.
Enjoyed your video, thumbs up for all the nature you included- birds, squirrels and ducks⚘️
Are you guys South African? I heard “is it” and had flash backs to living in SA
Great video, what month did you guys go?
11:31 Those aren't all ice cream trucks some of them are secret meeting places for the CIA and FBI. Some of them might even be FBI surveillance trucks.
Loved this one with all the history and the intricate architecture on all the buildings. I love the natural history museums, New York was my favourite but I would love to see that one in Washington too. Dad would be proud of you with that corny dad joke. It looked like you had a really fun day. Miss you both, love you, mum.xx 💕
We are really enjoying your videos. They are providing such great inspiration for us as we recently started full-time travel ourselves. As Americans, it's particularly fun to watch two Australians experiencing the United States. The National Mall is deceptively large. You see pictures and you think, "I'll just walk from the Capitol Building to the Lincoln Memorial." What's amazing to me (even as a US Citizen) is that all of the Smithsonian Museums are free. Unfortunately, everything else is so $$$$.
Glad you're enjoying yourselves.

Wow! So many iconic places and I'm surprised so much was free. The Library of Congress is very influential. I studied a library course for a bit and it turns out one of the cataloging systems the Library of Congress came up with for subject headers has been widely adopted worldwide.
